ImageReflections of the Feminine in Everyday Life
Brenda Peterson – Fiction (Reviewed by Julie Zamost)
Author Profile

Beautifully written and thought-provoking, these essays on the influence of the feminine quality in our daily lives, is a beautiful palate of diverse reflections that inform us and teach us to look anew. . .
Bringing feminine nature and metaphors into the larger world, Peterson looks at everything from taking baths to war, from lullabies to abortion, from foreplay to fundamentalism to fishing.  She writes about wilderness – what the water, the animals, the forest can teach us and about the sacredness of daily rituals and chores. Some telling chapter titles include: Other Teachers Than Terror – from Dinosaurs to Dolphins, In Praise of Skin, Power in the Blood, Life is a Musical, The Evidence of Things Seen, Giving Up on Greatness, and Killing Our Elders.

My very favorite is "From Dinasaurs to Dolphins", in which she introduces us to the world of dolphins – a world of incredible grace, and joy, and oneness. We learn about how dolphins deal with violence, how they tend and nurture their young and each other; and most amazingly, how they welcome us into their world with an unimaginable gentleness and generosity.
