If you have a tendency to dismiss homeopathy, therapies that work by “laying on of hands,” and the possibility of treating physical problems with magnets or machines that produce electromagnetic energy, you owe it to yourself to explore the profoundly interesting evidence that is now being produced by researchers all over the world. Oschman has compiled a unique textbook explaining the research on what is known about the energy systems of the body, with theories and evidence about how they interact. There is no question that we are at the very beginning of scientific understanding of this field, but there equally is no doubt that the body is a system of interacting energies.
Oschman says:
From the work of Frolich and others, we now know that all
parts of the living matrix set up vibrations that move about within the
organism, and that they are radiated into the environment. These
vibrations or oscillations occur at many different frequencies,
including visible and near-visible light frequencies. These are not
subtle phenomena; they are large, even gigantic in scale. Moreover,
their effects are not trivial, because living matter is highly
organized and exceedingly sensitive to the information conveyed by
coherent signals. (p.63.)
The research Oschmann details shows great potential for using energy
methods for treating all kinds of physical and emotional ailments, but
it also indicates a high probability of a negative influence on health
from the unregulated development and spread of electrical systems and
technology using low-frequency electromagnetic fields, such as
computers, microwaves and cell phones.
This book is an introduction to the research, heavily footnoted so you
can follow up on any aspect that interests you. A layperson will get
enough information from careful reading to understand the basics of
complex biological/energetic systems that are still in the process of
being mapped. That these energies exist is an old story for ancient
practices like acupuncture and energy healers, but it is
the first time we have had the instrumentation to measure and quantify
what actually happens and to theorize about the interaction of these
fields.
