Energy Medicine
|
If the first half of the health picture is meeting the physical needs of
the body with good nutrition and detoxifying environmental poisons, the second half is experiencing the body as a system of
energy fields that are affected by thoughts and emotions, past traumas,
habitual behaviors, external energy fields, etc. We are at the beginning of research in this area, although we can measure and often interpret these
fields physically with EEG, EKG, galvanic skin response, MRI, PET
scans, and many other more experimental machines.
Practitioners of acupuncture and other energy healing modalities can
feel and sometimes see these energies, and can manipulate them to
increase the health of the body. We can do the same for ourselves with
certain kinds of disciplines and exercises. This is a fast-growing
field which is revealing more and more the many complex ways the
bodymind interacts with itself and with the environment.
Some of the resources listed here may seem "far out," but if so, try
to keep an open mind and remember that it's part of the way the human
brain is wired to not see, or to dismiss, what doesn't fit into our
current picture of reality - without even absorbing the information. Our
current state-of-the-art science does not understand these phenomena,
any more than it understands the theory of quantum mechanics, or even electricity or gravity, so this
is another area where your own objective exploration and
experience can be invaluable for your own health and growth.

If you have a tendency to dismiss homeopathy, therapies that work by “laying on of hands,” energy psychology, and the possibility of treating physical problems with magnets or machines that produce electromagnetic energy, you owe it to yourself to explore the profoundly interesting evidence that is now being produced by researchers all over the world. Oschman has compiled a unique textbook explaining the research on what is known about the energy systems of the body, with theories and evidence about how they interact. There is no question that we are at the very beginning of scientific understanding of this field, but there equally is no doubt that the body is a system of interacting energies.

Donna Eden 1998 http://www.innersource.net/ Principles of Energy Medicine Articles on Specific Energy Techniques
Buy this book new or used from Amazon
This is a journey through a world that is unfamiliar to most of us—one where the energy systems of the body are just as tangible and meaningful as the sound of the voice or the expressions of the face. Donna Eden describes in detail her subjective reality, and invites you to “enter a domain beneath the world of appearances.” Eden understands that many of us have been trained to discount these energies and our ability to sense and manipulate them ourselves, even though we may accept acupuncture and all the machine-aided ways of reading the body’s energy, like Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EKG, EEG, or biofeedback that shows brainwave activity.

Integrating the World's Great Therapeutic Traditions to Create a New Transformative Medicine
Rudolph Ballantine, M.D.
1999
Physician, psychiatrist, herbalist, Ayurvedic practitioner, homeopath, teacher.
Buy new or used at Amazon This is a wonderful and unusual approach which lives up to its title, integrating a number of different systems including homeopathy and herbalism, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, nutrition, psychotherapy, and holistic energetic techniques of working with body and the mind. Ballantine writes about his own experiences and addresses the reader personally as he takes you on a relaxed tour through many of the systems of healing that initially sound so strange to those of us raised with conventional Western medicine. If you ever wanted to understand, for example, how in the world homeopathy or flower remedies could actually work, you will enjoy his explanations and case histories. This is a friendly and gentle way to break preconceptions and open yourself to new possibilities.
