Andrew Saul, Ph.D. 2003 http://www.doctoryourself.com/ Buy new or used from Amazon.com
A biologist and teacher by training, consulting specialist in natural healing for 25 years, adherent of Linus Pauling’s Orthomolecular approach to health, Dr. Saul has no-nonsense ideas about how to get healthy - which he seasons with a good dose of humor.
He is completely serious, however, about one thing – we need to take responsibility for our own health and train our doctors to help us care for ourselves. This sums up his attitude, which I think is exactly correct: http://doctoryourself.com/advice.html
His remedies are simple but specific—stop eating junk foods, use megadoses of certain nutrients for certain conditions (especially Vitamin C, which he recognizes as a practically universal remedy), eat a vegetarian diet with natural foods, lots of juicing, home-made sprouts.
His website is packed with information—everything that is in the book is probably on the site, but the book is a more manageable way to absorb it. Read Linis Pauling for a detailed explanation of how and why the chemistry works if you feel nervous about replacing drugs with foods and supplements; read Andrew Saul for a lighter and more anecdotal approach, well-supported by research, that integrates the whole diet with megavitamin therapy.
His most recent book, Fire Your Doctor! is also excellent.
