HOW TO USE THIS SITE

Memory, learning, stress and healing are all affected by classes of genes that are turned on or off in temporal cycles that range from one second to many hours. The environment that activates genes includes both the inner environment - the emotional, biochemical, mental energetic, and spiritual landscape of the individual - and the outer environment... the social network and ecological systems in which the individual lives. --Dawson Church, Ph.D. / The Genie in Your Genes

Gary Craig has collaborated with Donna Eden and David Feinstein (http://www.innersource.net/) on this book.  Written by David Feinstein with a couple of chapters from Donna Eden summarizing some of the principles of energy she describes in her book Energy Medicine, this is a very useful explanation and guide to using the Emotional Freedom Technique developed by Gary Craig.

EFT is one of a number of powerful and simple energy psychology therapies which use tapping or holding acupuncture meridan points to erase mental limits and emotional trauma, and to relieve pain and increase health. (some others are Callahan's TFT, Tapas Fleming's TAT, Fred Gallo's EDTM).

I like Gary Craig's EFT because there are massive amounts of free information on the website, and a series of excellent videos at very reasonable prices which cover many specific areas.  A full description of the EFT technique is available on the website with hundreds of pages of testimonials and descriptions of specifically how the procedure has been used by both experienced practitioners and by newbies, in thousands of individual cases. You can search on almost anything and find an experience or case history. For weight issues, Carol Look has excellent information on the website and is featured in one of the videos.

However, the book puts it together and clarifies how to use this powerful technique with very clear explanations of the basis for the interventions and diagrams of the tapping points.  EFT is a simple technique that teaches you how to stimulate certain energy meridian points on your body by tapping them with your fingertips, while holding the symptom or problem in mind. It is based on the proposition that "The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system."

Not coincidentally, the psychological "set-up" for the physical procedure will be familiar to anyone who has explored different kinds of healing; it's grounded in fundamental self-acceptance. It's some variation of: "Even though I have this X, I deeply love and accept myself."

The extreme advantage of using this approach to help change your negative attitudes and fixed beliefs is that it overcomes the primary disadvantage of using affirmations, which is that there is so often one part of the mind that simply won't go along with your desire to imagine and believe that things are changing, that they are already changed.

With EFT, you acknowledge the problem or the negativity or the pain or or the anxiety or whatever you are working on, and then proceed to "collapse" it by tapping on the acupuncture points. When other aspects of the problem arise, you approach them in the same way.

Professional health practitioners are using EFT in conjunction with other therapeutic techniques, and since it is perfectly safe, it is definitely something you can learn on your own and experiment with. The more psychotherapeutic skill the person doing the technique has in uncovering and unraveling the issues that may be blocking and holding energy, the more dramatic the results may be, but newbies have also had impressive results.

Although still experimental in nature, the mass of anecdotal evidence offered by hundreds of practitioners indicates that the technique has worked for many different species of pain, psychological symptoms, and illness, with children and adults, even by proxy for another person or an animal. There are numerous DVD sets available to watch master practitioners working. I recommend starting with "The Palace of Possibilities." The price is extremely reasonable, and you have permission with the DVDs to make 100 copies to give (not sell) to others.
