Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter, and Miracles
Bruce Lipton, Ph.D.
2005
Video of lecture The New Biology (1 hour--he's a high-energy, fast-talking speaker, so this is a big blast of information, but he makes creative and understandable explanations.)

Dr. Lipton, evolutionary biologist, university professor and cell researcher, explains the story of his discovery that the brain of the cell is not the nucleus, as has always been thought, but the membrane, which decides what to allow into and out of the cell at every instant. His experiments showed that a cell without its nucleus, where the DNA resides, was only slightly impaired, but that without its membrane, it died. He demonstrated that the receptor antennae on the cell membrane respond not only to physical molecules, but also to vibrational fields such as light, sound, and radio frequencies.

Lynne McTaggart is an investigative journalist whose exploration of the scientific evidence for the efficacy of alternative medicine led her to found the British health journal What Doctors Don’t Tell You and the associated website http://www.wddty.com/. She reports that when she began seeing conclusive gold-standard scientific studies validating homeopathy and acupuncture, and studies of spiritual healing that were good enough to suggest that something unexplained was happening, she became curious about these “energy systems” that were based on a different paradigm of the human body from that of modern science.

Embracing Your Life with the Heart of the Buddha
Tara Brach, Ph.D.

What Tara Brach terms “radical acceptance” is the fundamental basis for any quest for self-understanding, and also the first requirement for loving others. Of course this is not a new idea—we all know we need to have self-love and self-esteem, and there are hundreds of other books and magazine articles that say so. This is also a crucial piece of the influence of the mind and the emotions on our physical health. What is not always so clear is what real self-love and self-esteem look like, to us, here and now in this moment, or how to achieve them. She unpacks the concept in a beautiful way, relating many personal experiences, stories of clients and students, and quotations from other disciplines, so that it is easy to connect with and understand.

The 4-Step Program to Take Charge of Your Emotions--Today
Julia Ross, M.A.
2002

Julia Ross, a pioneer in the field of nutritional psychology and a specialist in the treatment of eating disorders and addictions since 1980, nails the physical aspect of the “mood” problem. She describes clearly, concisely, and completely how our physical sense of well-being is intimately affected by the availability of necessary building blocks to supply the brain with the nutrients it needs to function optimally. She distinguishes between “true” and “false” emotions: real feelings of grief or anger related to life events, and moods of sadness, irritability or depression that hold us in their grip for no reason. Of course we often do have unexplained feelings that are a signal of something we need to attend to—but these signals can be clear only if our minds are not fogged by deficiencies of the necessary neurotransmitters.
